Each New Experience

Although I am not a first time mother, I still need to rely a lot on the information from the internet about parenting. Like what people use to say, each pregnancy is a different journey and surely, throughout all my 3 pregnancy, I get different kind of experience. My second pregnancy ended with a total miscarriage on the eight week. And now, in my third pregnancy, I am going through a totally new experience with a twin pregnancy. I bet this is going to be a very exciting journey as there is so much to learn about as handling twins is going to be so new to me.

Outstanding of 2007

I must admit that I haven't been doing much activity at home with my girl these days. It is only 2 days away and she will soon starts her pre-school. Me on the other hand, is still feeling nausea and my back pain is getting worse. Thank goodness hubby is on a long holiday to help out most of the house hold, making milk at night and "entertain her" so that I could rest.

But there is still a lot on my mind. Things I have not done:
  • Write to my MIL's ex-maid asking her for maid recomendation from her hometown
  • Convince my SIL to help out on my confinement
  • Find a solution to our sleeping arrangement (with the addition of our new comers into our room)
And today is the last day of 2007 already. How time flies huh??

**** Happy New Year ****

Duphaston to strengthened the womb?

Do you take hormone pills to help strengthened your pregnancy?

I think almost everyone I know now takes Duphaston. It is a very expensive dydrogesterone tables and I have to take them twice a day. I was told that it is useful to strengthened the pregnancy and this is commonly prescribed to women who had miscarriage history or bleeding pregnancy.

Chanel and I concluded that there are some side effect when I took this. Some of it are:
  • Increase nausea
  • Lots of discharge
The above is enough to make me feel very uncomfortable and I hope I will be able to stop taking this soon since I am now entering my 2nd trimester.

Vomit for the first time

I have always love salted egg (yeah, I know I shouldn't be taking such unhealthy food at this moment), but I supposed once in a while should be ok.

Don't know why, after taking it with plain porridge last night, my nausea seems to become worst. For the first time in the pregnancy, I vomited some indigested sour juice :(

Thinking of it even almost making me vomit now....I think I better stay away from it at the moment.

Back pain

I have been experience severe back pain in this pregnancy. Even though I am only in my 12th weeks, tt is difficult to sleep at night, even I tried sleeping on my side. My back hurts so badly that I wonder if I should see a chiropratic? I have been finding for more details and pictures about exercise I could do to help so if you come across any tips, please let me know yeah !

2007 Achievements.

2007 is almost coming to the end, so have you achieve your dream and 2007 resolution?

In 2007, I started to go full time on paid blogging and make some reasonable income from it. I must admit I am very happy with what I got over the months, while being able to stay at home spending time taking care of my child full time. Most importantly, I had sweet parenting moments and each growing up activities captured on my blog :)

Chances of conceiving twins

We were really trilled to see 2 identical images on the screen when I went for my check up 3 weeks back. Although I fancy twins a lot, I would never dream of having a pair of twin myself since there isn't any family history on twins, even from both side of the family.

Even my hubby got suspicious how the twin came about...haha......

Alright, after some research, I found out the truth about the chances of conceiving twins. Chances are:

  • If you already have children for a woman's chances of having twins increase with each pregnancy.
  • You're older. As you age, your body produces more follicle-stimulating hormone, which can cause your ovaries to "drop" several eggs during each cycle.
  • You're overweight. Research found that women with a body mass index (BMI) over 30 are twice as likely to have fraternal twins as are thinner women. In addition, the study found that taller women (those over 5'5") are more likely to have fraternal twins than shorter women are.
  • Multiples run in your family. (This is especially true on the mother's side.) In fact, one in 60 female nonidentical twins gives birth to multiples.

Ending of my first Trimester

Finally I am almost reaching my 12 weeks!!

Although the journey has been considerably smooth for this pregnancy, this is the most unbearable pregnancy among all. Although I am lucky I do not vomit and had very bad nausea, I am certainly very lazy and moody all the way long.

My tummy is quite big for a 12 week pregnancy, as most people said. Thank goodness I don't eat that much anymore now, but my weight has increased tremendously over the pass 12 weeks.

Just hope I won't turn into a BIG FAT lady at such young age!

Tips for Building the Twin Bond

While I was reading all about twin, this catches my attention that each of them too, should be treated as an individual:

Tips for Building the Twin Bond

  1. The twin relationship is very strong indeed. Yet parents can help their multiples deepen their bond by following these tips.
  2. Give your multiples lots of praise when one does something considerate or nice for the other.
  3. Take each twin shopping individually to buy a special birthday or holiday gift for the other.
  4. Talk candidly and frequently about being happy for the other’s achievements. When one wins an award or trophy, help the other make a homemade card of congratulations.
  5. Nurture all sibling relationships. Encourage each multiple to spend time alone with other single-born children in the family.
  6. Offer privacy when needed and never insist on constant twin togetherness.

Sudden high fever

I am really surprise when my girl is down with very high fever, as high as 39 degree 2 nights before. Since then her fever has been up and down, with an average between 38-39 degree. This time her fever is something unusual and she hardly experience such high fever.

Hope she will be ok soon as her pead cannot find anything wrong with her throat nor she has flu or cough. What a gloomy weather even here in the house :(

Maternity clothing

Do you really buy a lot of maternity clothing or borrow it from someone else?

During my first pregnancy, I was really to borrow a box of maternity clothing from a friend. And those maternity clothings are really not cheap nowadays, I mean those presentable ones. Although I have one or 2 sets my own, I hardly have to wear nice office clothings as we have a outer layer for our uniform while I was working.

This time, while I was shopping for some, again, I had a huge bag of passed down from a friend who had decided to stop production (have more babies). I really feel blessed for having so much help from friends around me :)

Unpredictable weather

Oh no!! The sky is dark now and it is going to rain again? I still have a load spinning in the machine and my clothes are not done yet :(

The weather has been bad as it is unpredictable everyday. Either we are blessed with a sunny morning with a sudden rainstorm in the evening. So each evening before we go to nap, we really have to push in our laundry just in case there is a rain pour and all our effort gone.

Free play

It is a quiet day today as many didn't turn up for our playgroup today. Most of them are either busy with the prayer for the Winter Solstice today or went back to hometown. So there were only 3 mums with 5 kids.

Instead of following a routine playgroup session, we just let the children run free and play with whatever they wanted to. we had a great time to sit down and chat with each other too, about pregnancy, child care and even exchanged our Dhamma knowledge.

Learning Hokkien the Fun Way

Although my girl can understand at least 3 languages .

  • As we normally speak Mandarin at home, very naturally she learns this language from us.
  • With nanny, she speaks Cantonese.
  • Now, expose to other children in playgroup and school, she is slowly picking up English too.
Being a Hokkien, we would love her to learn that too, but since we hardly use Hokkien in our daily conversation, it is difficult for us to teach us. So in order to expose some words to her, hubby sometimes converse in Hokkien thru play.

  • For instant, we order food from her in Hokkien
  • Talk to her cuddling toys in Hokkien
  • Ask her to fetch something in Hokkien
It is really funny as she sometimes misunderstood the meaning of things we trying to tell her. But it is surely fun to learn through play :)

A year older on Winter Solstice

The "Tang Yuen" festive season is tomorrow, and all Chinese will be celebrating this special annual festival with their homemade glutinous rice ball (tang yuen). It is also a time where family gets together.

According to my grandmother, this day will be the coolest day in China and true enough, it is stated in Wikipedia (not bad huh for a non-educated old woman to have such knowledge?)

Will get up early and get the family some hot piping sweet glutinuous rice ball soup tomorrow.

Happy Winter Solstice to you!

Barney live on stage

We travelled all the way to see Barney who is live on stage yesterday. Not only it is crowded, the poor organiser had a lousy management on this kids this time. Due to the layout constraint, only 100 children were allowed into the fenced area to get near to the stage while the rest of us had to squeeze and carry our child high up on the shoulder to watch the show.

If only the fenced the area bigger like last time and blocked the adults from entering, more children would have benefit from the stage show. What a bummer!

Sketch book

Materials: Some white A4 Paper, a thicker color paper, puncher and a string

Method:
1. Punch the papers and thick color paper
2. Bind them together into a book
3. Your sketch book is ready to use

Option: Cut A4 into half if you wish to have a smaller sketch book. Qiqi has done hers sometime back. Great for them to scribble their art!

Fish Craft

This is a very simple craft we did in our playgroup the other day. Instead of having much preparation, all we need is just a paper plate, some glue and some scrap papers from the magazine. More details on the craft here.

This craft is done by Cheng Sim. Instead of using scissors to cut the paper crepes, she just torn them to create the fish scales effect. Looks really nice, isn't it?

Healthier Choice

When McDonald's introduced this McD Grilled Chicken Foldover, I did not try it out until very recently. That's because it looks very plain and doesn't look so appealing with so many fresh vege. But surprisingly, it really taste fantastic! Must really try this again one day :)

Cute sandwiches

A great way to eat your sandwich creatively. After spreading some butter and jam, we used the cookie cutters to cut our bread out into shapes. Cookies not only is very cheap, you can even get this easily from the sundry shop. In fact, it is a great way to encourage your kid to eat their sandwich too. For alternative, you can even put some ham or cheese in between the sandwiches.

Fun morning

Sometimes in the morning, we will do some simple craft at home. Not only it gives my girl some task to do, it makes her she feels proud the some art work she did too.

This is a simple Christmas craft using some scrap cardboard from my shampoo box. You can also do this by using different materials and past your decorated tree on a wishing card too. See more details here.

2 Kids or more?

I am so happy this morning when a friend of mine, who told me she has changed her mind and has decided to try for another kid. Having 2 boys right now, 3 and 2 now, she feels that she had enough. And since age is chasing up, she decided that she shouldn't be trying for more.

But yesterday she realised that now would be her last chance to try for her last pregnancy. Otherwise it would be too late, if she decides to have more kids in future.

After discussing with her hubby, she told me they are now considering a 3rd kid. Way to go, Audrey!

Minced meat for our noodle

My nanny is so kind to offer to cook for us sometimes. Since it wasn’t raining this morning, we took the opportunity to do our marketing and got some raw materials for nanny to cook for us.

This minced meat comes really handy for our lunch. By just boiling some hot noodles, and add some meat, there goes our fast lunch.

Lousy Telekom

Each time when I am rushing to submit my assignments online, there must be some glitches. This time, it isn’t the internet fault, but the stupid telephone line’s problem in my housing area. Until today, the problem has not solved despite reported 24 hours ago. I really get pissed off with this stupid service provider and how I wish we could get some alternative broadband service in our area.

Personalised Ang Pow

It would be fun to create some personal red packets (ang pow) to be used during Chinese New Year. I have not seen these, haha....am very eager to let Qiqi try them out :)

Magic Mosaic Mat

How about wonderful mats from the paper mosaic craft created by your child?

Materials:
Plain or colored paper (for background)
Color paper or recycle paper for cuttings
glue and pencil

Method
1. Cut the paper into strips about 1/2 inch wide, and then cut the strips so that you have lots of little squares.

Conceive immediate after a miscarriage

Although this is not my first pregnancy, I am surprise to still learn something new. As the saying goes, each pregnancy is different. And I cannot agree much more.

I just learnt that a woman is ready for childbearing again after a miscarriage once the normal cycle returns. When my miscarriage happened, I bleed for almost one full month (as if after giving birth).

Since my miscarriage was almost complete (with only 1.1cm placenta left intact) without any problem of prolonged bleeding, I did not realise I could ovulate immediately 2 weeks after the miscarriage.

So my girl was right. The soul is still there. No wonder she keeps talking to her "baby brother" after the miscarriage happened.

Why miscarriage happened?

It wasn't right in the very beginning. I sensed it and I knew.

I am glad we did not fight or insist to keep it any further, physically or emotionally. God know best, it should go.

Genetic Errors

The most common reason for a miscarriage is that something was wrong with the baby. Each time a sperm and egg come together to conceive a baby, a very complicated genetic process must happen. It's easy for errors to occur in the genetic code within the sperm, within the egg, or at the moment the two come together. These errors, which can happen at random, make it impossible for the baby to grow and develop normally (My baby was not in his right size, given the right time.) One way to think about a miscarriage is that in this situation, nature ended the pregnancy so that you could try again. (No use forcing on something which does not belongs to me).

Glad that God let it happen soon so that we could start all over again.

Potato stamp art

Ever worry about having to engrave those potatoes for your kid's art and craft? I got this fantastic idea from Kidley's blog. Instead of worrying about getting the perfect shapes, using the cookie cutters is one of the best way. After you got the shape, it is up to you to engrave the cut out shapes for more designs and textures.

Apple Collage

This is an easy craft, an introduction to the fruit family. Apple is also probably the first fruit that is being introduced to our kid.

Materials:
Scraps of red paper (tissue, wrapping, junk mail etc)
Small scrap of green paper
White glue, paper plate

Method:
1. Cover the back of the paper plate with glue.
2. Rip the scraps of red paper into small pieces and glue on.
3. When the whole plate is covered, paint another layer of glue over the top to stick down any loose edges.
4. Cut out two leaves and a stalk from the green paper and glue to the edge of the plate.

Just EAT & PLAY

We had a great party early this morning.

Instead of story telling and craft, we just EAT AND PLAY!

We gather earlier this morning and boy, my girl jumped out from her bed pretty easy this morning.

Each family brought some food and snack, and headed to the shaded playground to have a picnic nearby our home.
